Maurice and Lucy

Wedding Photographer: Andrew 

Location: London – Southwark Register Office, Camberwell

Lucy contacted me just a few weeks before the wedding. Like others I have shot in Southwark, I suspect that the event grew – “Oh, you really must have a proper wedding photographer.” We met via zoom and the booking was settled.

Maurice is an Australian and Lucy is a Scot, and that was reflected in the choice of clothes and flowers. The event was intimate and informal, with just a handful of family and close friends. The deep affection for this couple was written on every face, as was the joy once the wedding had taken place.

The bride had asked especially that I should deliver black and white images. I do anyway, as a matter of course, but I took special care over the monochrome set and am trying to honour that request in what I show here. I also shot some basic video of the ceremony itself, for a sister who couldn’t be present.

Sometimes you don’t really know how well a wedding shoot has gone until the edit. It is when you find yourself moved by the images of the occasion that you know it has gone right. A good wedding photographer is not an impassionate by-stander; to communicate the emotion you have to feel it yourself.
