Lectures, talks, classes, groups and one-to-one photo tuition
Before I was paid for my photography I was … a photographer! Like most professionals, I started out as a keen amateur. Before the digital revolution I was always short of funds to really shoot enough, but for almost as long as I can remember I have taken photos.
What I did for a living for many years was to teach – mainly in a church context. I worked with large groups, small groups and one to one for many years. That now stands me in good stead when it comes to teaching and training photographers. I give photography lessons on a one to one basis, with small groups (perhaps on a London “photo walk”) or in halls and classrooms.
I am not a kit-obsessed camera geek, and I do have the words to explain the technical stuff. I love teaching and encouraging people in the use of their camera, whether you have “just your phone”, an old SLR or a recent issue mirrorless camera.
Many people are conscious that they hold in their hands a magic box which is capable of all kinds of wonders when it comes to taking photographs, but they don’t know how to start. Others are reasonably experienced at snapping away, but feel that they need help to explore the more technical stuff. Still others are happy with what they are taking, but need help editing their photos. Wherever you are at, I will be happy to help.
