The Wedding of Matt and Kerry

Location: A legal marriage ceremony in the Anchor Inn at Barcombe, Lewes, East Sussex, followed by a mini-festival wedding in teepees in the fields behind.

This really was a day to remember! I had got to know Matt through photographing one of the bands he worked with as a trumpeter in Brighton, and I guess it was natural for him to come to me for his wedding photography at what was a very musical and memorable wedding day. He and Kerry met me in advance to talk through their plans, and Sarah and I were booked for the whole day. Whilst we were there as wedding photographers we really enjoyed ourselves! Fun people in amazing clothes (and footwear!), lovely scenery around, a great setting with the teepees and fires in the evening, musical instruments, lovely food – a real festival atmosphere to celebrate this much-loved Brightonian couple.

As wedding photographers the challenges of this event were in the lighting (we didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere with over-use of flash) and the sheer number of great moments to photograph. Looking back I am surprised by how few we took compared to the number delivered – only a few over 2000 shots, and we delivered over 600 – some of which you can see here.

The legal marriage ceremony was a challenge with tightness of space.  As ever in these events, movement is restricted anyway to avoid disturbing the seriousness of the moment: Andrew photographed the wedding ceremony from behind the couple and the registrars, and Sarah worked from the other end of the room.

We also provided some simple (unedited) video footage of the ceremony, and later in the day, of the bands playing in the festival.

My favourite wedding photography shot of the day? Without a doubt one of a sequence shot on Samyang 12mm fisheye at about 10 pm. Celebration!
