I love live music, and have been involved (both as player and listener) with many and varied musical collaborations. It is almost a paradox that a vivid photo can capture anything of a musical event, and yet it is true. In fact, bands need good images. We are all aware that young bands at the start of the long road to sucess have little spare cash for photography, but my own enjoyment of music is a big motivation. Subject to negotiation, I take gig pics for as little as my travel costs, free entry to the gig and the odd drink while there. Just try me!
This was my first band shoot, at least so far as getting in free to a paid gig goes! Rothko have since changed format (Bella Spinks and Caitlin Stubbs have left to pursue solo careers) and the name has changed to Twin Brother, who I have subsequently photographed. But I must admit I loved the sound and look of the band at this period. These shots were taken at Latest Music Bar, in Kemptown.
